Some landscapes seem to defy time, and this journey is, above all, a route of breathtaking contrasts. From the slopes of the Sierra Nevada to the endless arid badlands that captivated Hollywood, northern Granada and inland Almería guard a heritage sculpted in clay, stone, and celluloid.
Your day begins effortlessly with a direct pick-up at your accommodation. From there, guided by an expert local host, you will leave the city behind to explore a region shaped by its prehistoric past, frontier strongholds, and cinematic horizons.
The first stop brings us to Guadix and its famous Cave District, an almost lunar landscape where the earth itself is inhabited. We will visit the Trópolis cultural center to understand the magic of these bioclimatic dwellings carved straight into the clay hills, where the silence is absolute and ancient artisan traditions of bread-making, winemaking, and pottery remain untouched by time.
As we cross the Marquesado plains, the imposing silhouette of La Calahorra Castle rises against the sky atop a crimson hill. This stone fortress hides a fascinating secret: within its austere, Moorish-style defensive walls lies the very first Italian Renaissance palace built outside of Italy, featuring a stunning Carrara marble courtyard that instantly evokes the heart of Tuscany.
Finally, the horizon opens up to reveal the Tabernas Desert the only true desert on the European continent and the legendary setting that gave birth to the Spaghetti Western. You will wander through the same arid ravines and canyons trodden by Clint Eastwood or Lawrence of Arabia, stepping into the golden age of cinema that transformed this corner of Andalusia into the Wild West. To round off a day of discovery, we will share a traditional lunch featuring the most authentic and hearty flavors of the region.
