Description
The hill of Sabika holds centuries of history that go far beyond the Nasrid Palaces. The outer enclosure of the Alhambra preserves monumental gates, churches, convents and imperial palaces with free access that allow you to read the complete evolution of the complex from its Nasrid foundation to the Christian transformations after 1492, with an expert guide and without needing an entry ticket to the monument.
Our tour passes through the Gate of Justice, the main access to the palatine city for centuries; the Church of Santa María de la Alhambra, built on the site of the former Nasrid royal mosque; the Convent of San Francisco, now the Parador de Turismo, where the remains of the Catholic Monarchs rested until their transfer to the Royal Chapel; the Palace of Charles V, the Renaissance building with a circular floor plan set in the heart of the Nasrid complex; the Tower of the Seven Floors and the Nasrid Pool, two elements that concentrate some of the most persistent legends of the Alhambra. We include a visit to an artisan workshop of Granadan marquetry, the technique of inlaying woods and noble materials that has been linked for centuries to the craft heritage of Granada. The day ends at the Plaza de los Aljibes, with panoramic views over the city.
