Description
Granada has one of the most dramatic historical transitions in Europe. In less than one generation, the capital of the last Nasrid kingdom of the Iberian Peninsula became a Christian city, and that overlap of two civilizations is still readable today in every square, every street and every building in the historic centre. On this free tour we walk through the most representative sites of that transformation, from Plaza Nueva to the heart of Albaicín, with an expert guide who combines history, anecdotes and legends throughout the entire route.
Our itinerary passes through Madraza, an ancient Islamic university converted into a municipal building; Granada Cathedral, built on the Nasrid main mosque; Royal Chapel, mausoleum of the Catholic Monarchs; Alcaicería, the old silk souk; and Corral del Carbón, the only Nasrid alhóndiga preserved in Spain. From the centre, the route ascends to Albaicín, the Andalusian neighbourhood declared World Heritage, with its Moorish layout practically intact among cármenes and historic squares. The price is free, at the customer's discretion at the end of the tour.
