The Granada Tropical Coast concentrates in few kilometers a diversity of landscapes, history, and Mediterranean light that few Spanish coasts can match. This full-day excursion travels the coastline from the cliffs of Salobreña to the prehistoric depths of the Nerja Caves, already in the province of Málaga, with a central stop in Almuñécar, the oldest Phoenician city on the Andalusian coast.
The route starts with a panoramic stop in Salobreña, a white village perched on a rocky promontory with an Arab castle at the top and direct views of the Mediterranean. From there, the excursion continues to Almuñécar, founded more than 3,000 years ago by the Phoenicians under the name of Sexi. The route includes the Botanical Park of Majuelo, one of the most unique archaeological gardens in Andalusia, and the Castle of San Miguel, from whose walls the entire bay is dominated. In the afternoon, the day closes at the Nerja Caves, declared Spanish Historical Heritage, where the formations of stalactites and stalagmites reach dimensions hard to find in Europe and whose rock paintings place them among the most relevant Paleolithic sites on the continent.
