Description
To the south of Sierra Nevada, where the mountain begins to break down into valleys and ravines, La Alpujarra preserves one of the most unique ways of life in Andalusia. White villages nestled into the hillside, irrigation channels that still carry meltwater, and agricultural terraces that shape the landscape as they have for centuries.
Our route from Granada heads into the heart of the Barranco de Poqueira, crossing the historic Puente de Tablate, the former natural gateway to this mountain region. From there, the landscape becomes more intimate: steeper slopes, villages suspended above the valley, and the constant sound of water flowing through the land.
In Pampaneira, the narrow streets preserve traditional Alpujarra architecture among craft shops and cold-water fountains. In Pórtugos, Fuente Agria emerges in the middle of the forest with its distinctive reddish color. And in Trevélez, the highest village in La Alpujarra, the dry, clean mountain air continues to slowly cure hams in drying houses open to the mountains.
The experience combines our local guide's explanations with free time to walk at a leisurely pace, stop in the villages, and experience the unique rhythm of La Alpujarra. It is not a route to be traveled, but a landscape to be crossed.
